1950 –1959

World War II ended in 1945 and the country entered the inevitable awkward transition from war to peacetime. With rationing over practicality and conservation fashions were out. The main image for women was now that of demure femininity suitable for the sober role of motherhood. The two most enduring silhouettes of the 1950’s were wasp waistlines with a long full skirt or wasp waistlines with a slender skirt.

Let's not forget Rock 'n' Roll - it all started in the 50's, and certainly for many the poodle skirt and the dance hall were the fashion icons of the era. Glamour and sophistication were back! Many skirts were filled out with petticoats.
