1930 –1939
The 1930’s was a time when jobs were scarce and pay was low. Theatre and
opera were luxuries few could afford, but you could listen to the radio
and go to the cinema for very little money. In sharp contrast to reality,
Hollywood movies of this period depicted a sense of glamour unknown to
their audiences and fashion was greatly influenced by the Hollywood ideal
of style.
The silhouette was soft and feminine- skirts and frocks often clung to the
waist and hips but flared out in the gores of pleats.
